Hey, welcome to my blog – I’m delighted that you are here!

WHY THIS  BLOG?

Grow Adventurously’s mission is to inspire mums to embark on solo adventures with their kids, through sharing adventure and travel tips, and thoughtfully crafted itineraries. I want to give them the confidence to experience this joy with their kids, make wonderful memories and grow adventurouslytogether.

I love adventures…and so do my kids. (I wonder where they got it from?!)

After giving up my corporate job in 2015, I embarked on a 7-week road trip through Europe with my two children in tow to visit friends and family.

The kids were 3 and 6 years old at the time and I had no idea when I might go back to work, so wanted to make the most of our summer together. Since my husband wasn’t able to join us due to work commitments – and because I’m not one for sitting at home during the summer holidays, I went on my own. Little did we know that what started as a spontaneous idea, would soon turn into the regular highlight of our year.

Every time I told friends or family about my solo road trips with kids, they were either inspired or shocked.

But they would all have the the same questions:

Why do you do it?
How do you do it on your own?
How do you parent solo?
What do you pack for a 7-week road trip?
When do you go?
Where do you go?
What do you do on your road trip…?

A couple of years ago I was asked by dear friends why I didn’t blog about our adventures? I fobbed it off with “Where & how do I even begin?!” Well, 18 months later, I’ve finally listened to my friends and started…

WHAT’S IN THE NAME,

GROW ADVENTUROUSLY

WHO AM I?

Sky-diving in Cape Town during a business trip many moons ago (aka 2007)

I’m Nuran Honakhande. Wife to one, mum to two, friend to many.

I was born and raised in Germany. My parents are Turkish, hubby is Indian and I have been living in London, UK since 2006. (At this stage, people usually don’t ask me any more questions!)

Oh, and the kids…? Well, they think that they are half Indian, half Turkish, 1/3 German and 1/8 British. (We are still working on their Maths skills.)

If you are still reading, here are a few fun facts about me:

  1. I speak English and German fluently, and understand Turkish but can hardly speak it.
  2. I’m mum to two little adventurers, a 14-year old daughter and a 10-year old son.
  3. I’m in my mid 40’s, but still feel and act like 21.
  4. I do climbing, kayaking, running, and hiking (although hardly ever all of them in the same week).
  5. I love adventures!
  6. I’ve completed the Yorkshire-3-Peaks Challenge in summer 2021.
  7. I feel truly free and content in the mountains.
  8. I strive to be a gentle/conscious parent.
  9. I gave up my corporate job, in marketing technology, 8 years ago to raise my kids – it was the best decision ever!
  10. My kids and I embark on 6-week road trips through Europe in the summer holidays.
  11. I was interviewed for a podcast in 2021 – listen to it below.
  12. I love driving on German Autobahn’s (motorways).
  13. I love audiobooks.
  14. I love wholesome & nutritious foods.
  15. I love all things natural.
  16. I strive to live a non-toxic lifestyle as much as possible.
  17. I make my own marshmallows for camping trips.
  18. I question things, always.
  19. I research stuff painstakingly before purchasing or doing something (that’s because of points 14-18 above.)
  20. My kids & I completed the National Three Peaks Challenge within 12 months in 2021-2022 and loved it!
  21. My kids & I embarked on our first multi-day hut-to-hut in the Dolomites in summer 2023 which was an amazing experience. Everyone should do it at least once in their lifetime!
  22. My dream is to hug a silverback gorilla, gently.
  23. And my other dream is to own a motorhome one day so we can road trip… anytime.
